How to Take Care of Your Passport?

Travelers who have a list of places to visit and who long to travel different countries of their preference, surely have their passports on the go. What’s more exciting for these travelers and for our workers abroad is the new design of passport that will surely inspire them to travel more. But along with this, they should also see to it that they have taken good care of their passports for a hassle-free and convenient traveling escapades.

Always be prepared

  • Every time you are booking your trip, make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
  • Be sure to make a record of your passport number, date and place of issue.
  • Always have two photocopies of your passport that you can give one to a relative or friend from the country you’re going to work in or visit and take the other copy with you. Keep this copy separate from your original passport.
  • Make sure that you have a scanned copy of your passport and you have emailed it to yourself already so you can easily print it off in case of emergency.

Take Care of Your Passport While You Are Away

  • Always keep your passport in a watertight plastic bag to prevent water damage.
  • Don’t leave your passport unattended wherever you may be. Always keep it with you or store it in a place where it’s the safest and you can locate easily.
  • Be cautious of anyone who requests that you surrender your passport. Make sure it is a legitimate request before handing your passport over.

Who Can Renew Philippine Passport Here in Dubai

DFA recommends to have your Philippine passport renewed if you’re one of the following:

  1. You have an expired passport. Note: Philippine passports now have a 10-year validity so expect the number of expired passports to dwindle over the next few years.
  2. You’re a frequent traveler and you’ve already used up half of the passport pages.
  3. Your Philippine passport has one year (or less than one year) of validity.
  4. You’re married and you want to change the maiden name in your passport to your married name, regardless if your passport is expired/expiring or not.

However, if your passport is on the following list, it will be treated as NEW APPLICATION instead of RENEWAL:

1 Brown passports issued before 01 May 1995
2Green passports issued after 01 May 1995
3Machine Readable Maroon passports issued in 2007
4Any older passports
5Lost valid or expired ePassport
6Frequently lost passport
7Mutilated or damaged passport

In addition to the passports mentioned above, applicants who used travel documents to travel back to the Philippines, as well as those who lost such travel documents, will be treated as NEW APPLICATION.

How To Renew Philippine Passport Here in DUBAI – Easiest Way

How To Renew Philippine Passport in Dubai UAE, Philippine-Passport-Dubai.png

You can renew or collect your passport/e-passports in Philippine Consulate General Dubai (PCG) in a few steps. Know how much fees and requirements you need to prepare as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Dubai through this article.

Step 1: Book an online appointment for e-Passport renewal. To avoid any issues, don’t make multiple bookings. You will have to register as part of the process.

The following DO NOT need to make an online appointment: household service worker, seafarers, senior citizens, and children below 12 years old.

Step 2: Go to the appointment with the requirements for the passport renewal.

  • Accomplished e-Passport application form and OAV form
  • 2 photocopies of the passport data page
  • Passport fee of AED 240.00
  • Email Confirmation of Appointment

Check the other requirements for minor, dual citizen, etc.

Passport Appointment: 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (cut-off)

Step 3: Claim your passport at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai. Check the Passport for Release page to check if your passport is ready to be released. Check the latest update on the website every Tuesday or Wednesday.

Reminder:

  • Don’t call the Consulate to re-confirm availability of your passport.
  • Send an email (epassportpcgdubai@pcgdubai.ae) for delayed passports (more than 8 weeks)

DFA recommends having your passport renewed as early as one year before its expiration date.

Here are two reasons why:

1 First, there are countries that have adopted the “6-month rule,” meaning they don’t allow entry of travelers whose passports have less than 6 months of validity upon arrival.

If you’re about to visit the following countries, make sure your passport has at least (or more than) 6 months left before its expiration date:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Bhutan, Botswana, Brunei, Cambodia, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Fiji, Guyana, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Myanmar, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Oman, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Taiwan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, UAE, Uganda, Vanuatu, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

2 All Philippine passports are printed in the Philippines to prevent the proliferation of counterfeit documents.

If you’re working abroad, it may take between 1 and 2 months for your Philippine passport to be processed and delivered to you.

So in addition to the 6 months of validity required by some countries (including the Philippines), you also have to factor in the time it takes for you to get your renewed passport.

How much cost to renew Philippine passport?

Philippine passport renewal fees depend on where you make the appointment/transaction.

As summarized above, you may avail of either regular processing or express processing (if you want to receive your passport faster).

Passport renewals in Aseana or Consular offices in Metro Manila cost ₱950.00 (regular; released in 12 days) or ₱1,200.00 (express; released in 6 days).

If you make an appointment in any of the Regional Consular offices outside Metro Manila, the cost of passport renewal is the same with the regular passport released in 12 days and expressed passport in 7 days.

Take note that these waiting time are only applicable to those who will personally claim their passports at DFA. Additional days may be needed if you have availed of the courier service.

Meanwhile, Filipinos abroad may visit a Foreign Service Post in their host country to have their passports renewed. The renewal fee is $60 but it may take up to 2 months (28-60 days) before you can receive it since all Philippine passports are printed in the Philippines.

  • Passport fee of AED 240.00
  • Acknowledgement AED 100
  • Affidavit/Certification AE 100
  • Attestation AE 100
  • Certified True Copy AE 100
  • * The Consulate General accepts cash payments only.

Take note that those with lost or mutilated ePassports have to pay an additional ₱350.00 as penalty fee when renewing their passports. This fee is only applicable to those applying in the Philippines and may vary depending on the Foreign Service Post in your host country.

What is an e-Passport OR electronic Passport?

An Electronic Passport or ePassport is a passport with an added integrated circuit or chip embedded in one of the passport pages. Such chip contains the data essential in verifying the identity of the passport which include the personal data found on the data page of the passport, the biometrics of the passport holder, the unique chip identification number, and a digital signature to verify the authenticity of the data stored on the chip.

This chip is highly interoperable; meaning, it can be read by any standard border control machine worldwide. It is integrated with high security mechanisms in order to prevent any forceful scheming of data it contains, any cloning, and any remote reading.

What are the special features of the Philippine ePassport?

The Philippine ePassport allows information stored on the chip to be verified with the information visually displayed on the passport. It also uses contactless microchip technology.

The Philippine ePassport also contains an integrated photograph of the holder, a digitized secondary photo, and an electronic print of the holder’s signature. It also features overt and hidden security features such as Invisible Personal Information (IPI), letterscreen, microprinting, and UV reactive ink, among others.

What are the advantages of having Electronic Passport?

The e-passport is highly secure, hence avoids passport reproduction and tampering. The ePassport database is enhanced with Automated Fingerprint Verification System (AFIS) that guards against multiple passport issuances to the same person and enhances imposter detection.

It facilitates fast clearance of travellers at immigration checks. ePassports provide travelers benefits such as use of automated border clearance or “e-gates,” automated issuance of boarding passes, and faster travel arrangement with airlines. For countries, the use of electronic passport also provides better border protection and security.

Procedures of e-Passport Appointment

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

The Philippine Passport is at all times the property of the Republic of the Philippines. It must be surrendered upon demand by an authorized representative of the Philippine Government.

Good Day,
I just want to follow up my passport which I renew last October 10. ‘ve been checking the status online almost every day but I don’t see any update or changes in the list. I also sent mail to epassportpcgdubai@pcgdubai.ae but it took 72 hours for them to reply. PLEASE give any update/ feedback. Jane Carganilla Velasquez
